Rich tradition. Divided loyalties. Intense competition. Every year on a cold Saturday in late November, the football programs at Michigan and Ohio State collide in a high-stakes battle of Midwest bragging rights. Regardless of how each team performed during the season, the rivalry between the Wolverines and Buckeyes is amongst the greatest in all of college football. As a former Michigan cheerleader, this week always fires me up - and this year's makeup & fashion is ready for victory!
This week, I decided to take a trip back to the Big House in Ann Arbor to show off my school spirit for "The Game". My favorite piece in this outfit has to be the maize and blue flannel shirt that I bought from the Bo Store in Ann Arbor. For those who aren't loyal Wolverines, Bo Schembechler is the iconic Michigan football coach who led our team for over 20 seasons, and personified the greatness of the University of Michigan. Bo led the Maize & Blue against Ohio State in "The Ten Year War", a series of games that cemented the legacy of the rivalry. At the Bo Store, every piece of merchandise incorporates an image, quote or likeness of Bo Schembechler, and I loved how this shirt paired with my blue vest and the "Bo" in my hair!
Tomorrow's game marks the 113th meeting of these Big Ten powerhouses, and I had the honor of being on the field for 4 of them during my college years. Before the game in 2010, I accidentally missed the team bus to the stadium, and had to be escorted to The Horseshoe in the back of an Ohio State Police cruiser. As we drove through our rival's campus, a sea of tailgating Ohio State fans noticed me in the cop car, and began cheering like crazy! Needless to say, it was a rough outing that day for me and the team.
My best Ohio State-Michigan memory was the last time we beat the Buckeyes in 2011 and seeing the fans rush the field in the Big House. This year's matchup takes place in Columbus, with Ohio State ranked #2 and Michigan ranked #3. The Game will be for "all the marbles" this year- a spot in the Big Ten Championship game and a potential College Football Playoff berth. Here are a few photos of my time during the Michigan-OSU rivalry. Enjoy, and GO BLUE!
